App Your Way Through University

University is chaotic at the best of times. All those lectures, seminars and classes – not to mention the social element! Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to clone yourself to fit it all in?

Unfortunately cloning isn’t available, but with the advancing technology there are plenty of cool apps and programs to make life just that little bit easier.

In 2008, Apple and Google both launched app stores.  The number of apps available is rapidly growing, as of March 2017 Android currently has 2.8 million apps available and Apple’s App Store remained the second-largest app store with 2.2 million available apps to download.  With so many tools available at your fingertips, it’s time to get the lowdown on the best ones to help you whiz through the workload.

Time management tools

Do you struggle with your time management, or get easily distracted and wonder where the time’s gone at the end of the day? With these apps you can stay focused and keep an eye on what you’re spending your time doing.

Toggl keeps track of your time and provides you with a timer so you know how long you’ve spent working on a task, while Hocus Focus hides inactive windows automatically leaving your working space clutter free. Forest is an unusual app that grows a tree whilst you work, but kills it if you get distracted with your work; if the tree dies you’ve been proven to be distracted.

Another app which tracks the time spent on applications and websites is Rescue Time. It does what it says – tracks your day and shows reports of your activities and any potential wasted time.

Keep organised

Organisation is the key to success.  Often, as students, there will be many projects and workloads to juggle, but these tools will make the juggling easier.

Evernote helps you work smarter, keeping all your work in one place. If managing tasks proves overwhelming, then Trello will provide the perfect helping hand. Trello helps you organise your work; it’s especially useful for group work.

Having to work in a team and keep clashing schedules? TimeTree provides the answer to your problems with its neat overview of schedules, allowing the sharing of calendars, making life so much easier to organise. Remember the Milk is the perfect app for busy people, it keeps track of the many things you need to get done each day. It works as a digital to do list, so post-it notes will become a thing of the past!

Make your work stand out

You’ve managed your time, while being super organised. Now it’s time to impress with these fantastic tools to really show your work off.

Bored of the traditional PowerPoint presentations that drag on? Why not try out Animoto? This super-easy tool allows you to create a video presentation using photos, video clips and text. You can even add music to the finished presentation and customise text and photos.

Another great presentation tool to try out is Canva.  It’s the perfect design tool for creating graphics, presentations even banners and reports.  Using this product will show off any work in a professional light with its photo filters and fantastic fonts.

It’s so easy to get distracted with phones pinging the latest updates, emails coming through thick and fast, so allow yourself to be mindful about the task in hand.  Switch off from the world outside and concentrate on the work you’re doing; that way you’ll have it done in no time and be able to get back to enjoying the finer things in life.

With all these useful tools to keep you and your work in check you’ll be able to work smarter and produce more concise, focused work.
