I can do that

Pretty much every day, you will look at something and think “I can do that if someone would give me the chance.”

Unfortunately, in this current climate, not many people are given the chance they deserve and need. Whether you want to start a business, try a new hobby or get a new job, you have to believe in yourself. One episode of The Simpsons had Lisa make a doll called Lisa Lionheart. Her catchphrase was “believe in yourself and you can achieve anything.” That’s exactly what you need to do. Believe in yourself.

Ask for help
If you feel like you’re sinking, you have to ask for help. If you’re having money troubles, ask friends and family if you can do some chores for them to raise some money. Sell the stuff you don’t use any more, but don’t be sentimental about the book you loved when you were seven but haven’t picked up since. It takes courage to ask for help. Sign on to the Job Centre, they can give you money every week providing you look for a certain number of jobs a week. It’ll help keep you afloat and take a bit of pressure off.

Don’t bury your head in the sand
The worst thing you can do is close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and sing “la la la la la”. The problems will still be there when you open your eyes unfortunately. You have to acknowledge that something is wrong in order for you to be able to fix it. If you don’t like your job, get on the job hunt. People say it’s easier to find a job when you’re in one. I won’t lie: finding a job at any time is hard. Stick it out until you get paid, and look for another job in the meantime.

Everything starts small
The world’s most famous businesses didn’t start that way. They probably started in someone’s garage or bedroom. If you have an idea for a business, start small but dream big. You might have to fund it yourself so a few hundred pounds should be enough to start a tiny business. Make sure you do your research though.

Make a hobby a career
If you are a pretty nifty painter, or people say your stories are pretty good, get yourself recognised. There are so many things to help you with that. All you need to do is send your work to the right people, and they can be found on the internet.

Honestly people, the world might be a bit rubbish right now, but it will be a lot better if you keep faith in yourself and your abilities. Keep dreaming, keep looking, and keep an open mind. You never know what is around the next corner.
